Announcements July 30 & 31, 2022

August 25   Vestry Meeting at HN 9:00A.M.

Next weekend is the first Sunday of the month so all cash and designated checks will go the Vicar’s Discretionary Fund.

On Monday, 7/18, Fr. Olin, Tim, and I had our second meeting with the Builder Reps for the restroom Accessibility project at CTK. They presented very preliminary plans based upon feedback that we provided at our initial meeting. We reviewed those materials, and between all of us, we came up with several changes that we suggested. They will now take this new information, and they will return in a few weeks with revised plans that we will again review. This is a process that will take some time, but the good news from today is that what we want to accomplish is capable of being done. We will keep informed as we go, and if you have any questions, please contact me. As always, thank you for your continued prayers and support.
God’s Peace, Dale Logan, CTK Jr. Warden

CAP Pantry update: Thank you all for the donations of personal care products!!! When I delivered our contributions, the only personal care products on the shelf were a few toothbrushes. Please continue to donate bar soup, toothpaste, shampoo and deodorant. No need for soups; it’s way too hot. However, boxed salad mixes, salad dressing and other shelf stable salad items are appreciated. If you do not like to shop and want to donate, please consider giving to the church discretionary fund. Fr. Sletto likes to shop. Thank you!

Please continue to save your Econo receipts (Tadych’s) Market Place) for our church.  Thank you

Booklets for August/September/October are available at each church and in the plastic bin outside the church office.

The worship service video and audio will continue to be on line.  Early in the week, visit the church website ( to view or listen to the Worship Service. You can also view the worship service on You Tube.

Father Olin Sletto, Senior Warden Tim Graul, Junior Warden Challoner Brown, Junior Warden Dale Logan, John Witteborg, Gwen Larson, Joanne Ator, Cori McFarlane, Treasurer Morag Hornsby, Katie LaViolette, Administrative Assistant Dawn DiCarlo and Vestry Clerk Bunny Hagen were present at Holy Nativity Jameson Hall.
1. Father Olin opened the meeting at 1:09 pm with a prayer. He then relinquished the chair to Senior Warden Tim Graul. Members introduced themselves.
2. No guests, visitors or congregation input.
3. Vestry Orientation led by Joanne Ator.
A copy of the Vestry Member Job Description from the diocesan website was provided to each member with discussion and questions entertained. Joanne emphasized the importance of:
Attendance at every meeting to benefit from the insight produced during discussion and the background for decisions that are made.
Communication with members of the congregation via newsletter, website, announcements at weekly worship, making the minutes from meetings available at each building and Vestry members making themselves available to parishioners.
Confidentiality of information that is identified as either sensitive or decisions that require further consideration before being announced.
Collegiality in all decisions made, working together and supporting a decision even though you may have voted against it.
Discernment or deliberate investigation of an issue through prayer and gradual approach when the issue at hand is a difficult.
Property Maintenance is a major responsibility even though the diocese owns all the real estate. Wardens have discretion to spend up to $200 without vestry approval for immediate needs. We have the right to refuse donations of goods if they are out of sync with our goals or standards. Best practice in hiring contractors is to obtain 3 bids if possible to avoid favoritism.
Computer links to diocesan resources will be emailed to each member.
Fr. Olin asked that all remember that they represent all of the congregation and would benefit from attending mass quarterly at the building they are not accustomed to.
Dale Logan moved to accept the agenda as written, Cori McFarlane seconded. Motion

passed. Tim instructed the group that members have an opportunity to make additions to the agenda via email or at the meeting prior to adopting the agenda. We follow Robert’s Rules to conduct our meetings and the rules can be found on the internet. It is important when voting during the meeting, to record any dissenting vote, since that individual will have standing to reintroduce the topic at a later date.
5. Gwen Larsen moved to accept the minutes of the May 18, 2022 meeting. Challoner Brown seconded it. Motion passed.
Challoner moved to accept the minutes of the Annual Meeting of 2021. Cori McFarlane seconded. Motion passed.
6. Treasurer’s Report
6.1 Morag Hornsby directed members to their copy of the treasurer’s income and expense report. Current income includes an undesignated donation by an anonymous donor in the amount of $20,000. For now it will be moved out of the line for pledges to a separate line identified as gift, until the vestry designates its use. The Investment ad hoc committee recommended that we hold our investments in the established accounts. Miscellaneous costs discussed. Need to budget for supply clergy next year to cover emergency situations. Gwen recommended that before paying bills to contractors the junior wardens review the invoice to make sure charges are accurate.
Challoner Brown moved to accept the treasurer report. Seconded by Dale Logan. Motion passed.
6.2 Due to many errors related to Paychex as our vendor for payroll, Dawn will ask at the diocese if we can do our own payroll. With so few employees, it would save us $800 per year. Joanne Ator moved to explore alternatives to the Paychex service. Gwen Larsen seconded. Motioned passed.
6.3 Katie LaViolette provided to the Senior Warden her resume which includes experience in church and lay organization treasurer roles. She also has a degree in criminal justice and bookkeeping experience. Gwen Larsen moved to accept Katie LaViolette as our new treasurer. Cori McFarlane seconded. Motion passed. Morag Hornsby received a vote of thanks for her years of service as treasurer.
7. Senior Warden’s Report
Mark Van Caster is still on schedule to install the new doors at CTK in August.
8. Junior Warden’s Report
8.1 Holy Nativity –Yard work is completed. Thanks to John Witteborg for refreshing the paint on entry doors, Joanne for pruning and weeding by Dale Logan, Dale’s grandson and Barb Graul. Borkovetz Plumbing has been contracted to proceed on correcting the water treatment and rust problem.

8.2 CTK-Dale Logan reports that Jane Benzow will be cleaning at CTK and agreed to $25 per hour. Parking lot lighting has been ordered. Harv’s Electric will be the contractor. A meeting with Keller Builders of Kaukauna is planned for Monday June 27th. Dale and Tim will meet for a walk- through to view the existing structures and discuss changes /additions to be made. This includes consideration of a ramp, power doors, remodel of restrooms, large meeting room, and lift. The cost of developing a proprietary architectural plan would require a $1,500 retainer. As Dale says “if it’s God’s will, it is God’s bill.
9. Vicar’s Report
9.2 Dedication of the organ at CTK is set for 3pm on September 18, 2022. The program originally planned by Bob Nickel, includes a third organist, which potentially could be a friend of Bob Nickel. Stipends will be paid to all organists, donations will be welcome. This event will be open to the community. New pipes will be installed and the organ tuned July 3rd. Lessons and carols is planned for December 3, 2022 at 5pm at Holy Nativity. An advent concert is planned at CTK on December 11, 2022 at 3pm.
9.1 Father Olin will be vacationing in July and supply priests will be staying at the parish house on two weekends. Dates have been published in the newsletter.
10. Old Business
10.1 Cemetery
Tim Graul reports that there has been no response by the property owner Feig nor the leasing party Taylor. Tim will contact the lawyer Jim Downey and discuss how to proceed. The diocese purchased the piece of property that gives us access but is was not recorded properly. Cremains only will be accommodated in the future.
10.2 The Bishop will be visiting June 25-26. The vestry will meet with him 3:30pm June 25th at HN. Installation of the new vestry will occur July 2 and 3.
11. New Business
Gwen reminded the group that at the annual meeting it was suggested that we develop a capital campaign to raise funds for the possible CTK accessible improvements. Discussion followed. Gwen Larsen moved to establish an Accessibility Improvement Fund. Challoner Brown seconded. Motion passed. Action will be needed on how to proceed after the builder returns with a proposal. Gwen suggested that we reach out to local churches that may have experienced working with building contractors that know the local building codes.
The next Vestry meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 28th, 9:00 AM at Holy Nativity Jameson Hall.
The group agreed to set the 4th Thursday morning as a set vestry meeting date.
Father Olin closed with the Lord’s Prayer at 3:20pm.
Respectfully submitted, Bunny Hagen, Vestry Clerk.
