CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: The carpet installation in the church is complete except for the area at the old entry, awaiting demo of those walls. That demo will take place next week which will enable us to re-connect the organ to give us that wonderful treat.

The sidewalks have been poured again and are complete and windows are scheduled to be installed next week. We are still waiting for the exterior brick which is scheduled for later July, but not a firm date.

Also, with the lack of space in the area around the entry, coffee hour will be in the Parish house again. Thank you for your patience, support, and prayers. God’s Peace, Dale Logan CTK Jr. Warden.

CAP PANTRY STATISTICS AND REQUESTS: Sandi shared statistics with us comparing the first 5 months of 2023 and 2024.  A sobering increase!

1/1/23 to 5/31/23:  1,766 individuals

1/1/24 to 5/31/24:  2,545 individuals

Current pantry needs:  cereal, hamburger helper, mashed potato flakes, pancake mix.  If you prefer to donate money, please make the check out to the church with CAP on the memo, or to Door County Lakeshore CAP Pantry.  Once again, thank you for your support of this important outreach mission.

COMMUNITY HANDBELL CHOIR: The Handbell Choir is scheduled to play at Holy Nativity on July 27th and at Christ the King on August 18th. Everyone is invited!

BISHOP’S VISIT:  On Sunday, September 15th, Bishop Gunter will be with us to celebrate and dedicate our CTK building addition.  A reception will follow after the service, all are invited.

With the Bishop’s visit, we have an opportunity to have new members received by him, either by transfer or by joining as a new church member. If you are interested in being received as a member at that time, please contact Fr. Olin.

FORWARD DAY BY DAY BOOKLETS: The May / June / July booklets are available at each church and at the CTK Parish House porch (close to the driveway) in the bin.

TADYCH’S MARKETPLACE FOODS: Please continue to save your grocery receipts for our church. Thank you.

WORSHIP CANCELLATION: When situations occur that make worship questionable, the Wardens and the Vicar will make a decision about canceling worship, hopefully early in the process. If worship is to be cancelled, you will receive the message by e-blast.

Challoner called the meeting to order at 9:36 am. Fr. Olin led us in a meditation of the Holy Spirit descending as “God’s breath” on us. A prayer of thanksgiving was said for all the blessings bestowed on the congregation.
2. Guest/Visitor/Congregation Input – No visitors present.
3. Adopt agenda
Motion to approve the agenda by Gwen Larsen, seconded by Cori McFarlane. Motion carried.
4. Review of minutes from April 18, 2024
Motion made by Challoner to amend the minutes to read: Cost of asbestos abatement, new carpeting, movers and POD rental is $20,700. Appliances to be purchased include a refrigerator, coffee maker and microwave oven. Seconded by Dale Logan. Motion carried.
5. Treasurer’s Report
Sally Hunter reviewed financial reports and based on the numbers she is concerned that actual income is still lagging behind budgeted operating income. She is instructing the vestry to not spend any more money.
Building Addition projected costs to date:
$307,000 to Keller builders
$20,700 for the new flooring
$5,000 for the stained- glass windows (donated)
Remove tree and stump $1,700
City fees $300
Appliance costs pending
Sally and Challoner have signed the loan papers from the Diocese of Fond du lac. The loan is for $100,000. Motion to approve the treasurer’s report by Cori, seconded by Gwen. Motion carried
6. Sr. Warden’s Report
Challenor reports that the Grauls are asking that the announcements from the weekly newsletter be included with the bulletin insert. Ideas discussed.
Action: The announcement sheet will return to the bulletin.
Trialogue update: Challoner secured a hard copy of the new canons/constitution for the recently approved merger of three Wisconsin Episcopal Dioceses. The state will be divided into 5 mission districts and we are in district B. The complete transition will be completed in three years. It is believed that our diocesan asking will be reduced by 25%. Joanne suggests that each month the Senior Warden give a brief on the new constitution.
7. Junior Warden’s Report
HN: Joanne reports that the new light pole has been fabricated by Tim Johnson and is ready for installation. Joanne will follow up with Tim Graul regarding the installation.  We passed fire inspection for the year.
Lana Wilson, a volunteer from Manitowoc who has relatives buried in the church cemetery, will be here May 18 with other family members. They will be doing some clean-up in the cemetery that day and Barb Graul and Sally have volunteered to assist.
CTK: Accessible Project updates:
Our original brick choice is still available and will be delivered without much of a delay to the progress.
Carriage styled lamps will be placed on either side of the main entrance and a third light will be focused on the cross. All will have light sensors. Cori suggested having lighting above the parking lot side entrance. Dale will pursue.
Dale presented a timeline for the new CTK flooring installation. Vestry reviewed samples of the carpet choices. Flooring to be completed by June 10, 2024. The cost is $1,367 LESS than the estimate.
June 2 and 9 Sunday services will be housed in the parish house.
The hearing loop will be reinstalled, no cost estimate for that.
Landscape:
Retaining wall / Planter
Joanne explained the recent dilemma related to post construction landscaping. Lengthy discussion / brainstorming for solutions included: Sod only for the slope in front of the main entrance to save money and eliminate water run-off. There is 237 sq. feet of plant space if a planter/retaining wall is constructed.
The city may require plants restored to compare with original landscape.
Keller will level the property with fill but we will need to truck in topsoil.
Building a wall, faced with brick that matches the church, across the front of the new main entrance, designed as a planter. Grass would be planted in front of the wall to the city sidewalk.
Preliminary discussion with a hardscape specialist estimates the cost to be $5,000 to $10,000. Payment for this expense could include fundraising, use of the CTK building fund initially then replace with funds raised. Postpone plantings until 2025, focus on the wall in 2024.
Action:
Joanne and Dale to obtain multiple estimates from Sterling Landscape, Bay Lake Landscape, Earthscape Landscapers, and Danny Cihlar (mason). We will formulate a payment plan when costs are known.
8. Vicar’s Report
Fr. Olin had a wonderful and needed vacation and will plan to be off the last week of September 2024.
The dedication of the new addition is set for September 15, 2024. The Bishop will be the main celebrant. Fr. Kallenberg, Fr. George Hillman, Mother Barbara Sajna and Mother Skidmore will be invited to participate.
Clergy from St Annes have requested the use of the parish house for retreat. August was suggested and a donation for cleaning would be appreciated
9. New Business – None
10. Old Business
Work continues on the banner to announce special events at CTK. Fr. Suggests putting our web address on the banner and “You are Invited”. Cori would like to see a back-to-back banner with organ and special music event printed.
Motion by Gwen to approve the organ tuning cost of $490 and sign the contract for work to be completed once addition is complete. Seconded by Challoner. Motion carried.
11. Next Meeting:
June 20, 2024, 9:30 am at Holy Nativity
Meeting adjourned at 11:36 am after the Lord’s Prayer.
Respectfully submitted,
Bunny Hagen
